一、什么是网站地图
所谓网站地图,是用来说明一个网站结构、栏目和内容说明等基本信息的网页。
使用网站地图的目的主要有两个，一是为了方便搜索引擎检索信息，当Spider群来到这个站点，首先会分析该站点的地图有没有更新；二是为了用户更快速在网站中找到自己需要的信息。我们讨论的主要是针对搜索引擎检索特意制作的网站地图。
二、网站地图的分类
通常来说，Sitemap网站地图，分为两类，一类是普通Html格式的网站地图，另外一类是XML格式的网站地图。
普通Html格式的网站地图，类似＂http://www.ltwap.net/sitemap.html”，它的目的是帮助用户对站点的整体有个把握。Html格式的网站地图根据网站结构特征制定，尽量把网站的功能结构和服务内容富有条理地列出来。一般来说，网站首页有一个链接指向该格式的网站地图。
XML Sitemap 通常称为Sitemap（首字母大写 S），类似＂http://www.ltwap.net/sitemap.xml”，简单来讲，Sitemap 就是网站上链接的列表。制作Sitemap并提交给搜索引擎可以使网站的内容完全被收录，包括那些隐藏比较深的页面。这是一种网站与搜索引擎对话的好方式。
对于大型的网站比如行业网站、综合娱乐网站等一定要向搜索引擎提交网站地图（Sitemap），以方便搜索引擎蜘蛛检索和收录你的网站。
三、如何制作网站地图
制作网站Sitemap地图有第三方在线生成和通过软件自动生成和手工制作创建三种方式。
目前制作Sitemap地图的比较好的软件工具有Xenu Link Sleuth、老虎Sitemap生成器等，在线制作的有很多，比如常见的如http://www.xml-sitemaps.**/等。
